Already renowned for the Eroica cycling event, the Gaiole in Chianti area offers numerous opportunities for trekking and mountain biking enthusiasts.
Badia a Coltibuono serves as a gateway for this type of experience. Numerous trails, marked by the CAI (Italian Alpine Club), pass through here—including trail 00, which can lead all the way to Florence.

Staying in the area, visitors can choose from a variety of routes with different lengths and levels of difficulty, all offering the chance to explore the beauty and diversity of the Chianti landscape.

One particularly interesting hike leads from Badia a Coltibuono to the hill of Cetamura del Chianti, where archaeologists have uncovered a sacred well among the remains of the ancient Etruscan-Roman village. Remarkably, ancient grape seeds—some of the oldest ever found in Chianti—were discovered there.

Bike lovers can also enjoy a scenic ride starting from Badia a Coltibuono along an old white gravel road that runs alongside the estate’s olive groves. This path passes near the small hamlet of Grimoli and leads to Cavriglia, a hilltop town in the Upper Valdarno region.

Badia a Coltibuono is also an ideal destination for a trip out of town for a walk along the paths of upper Chianti or for a picnic
