Badia a Coltibuono is among the supporters and promoters of the “Eroica”, the annual bicycling race on old-fashioned bicycles that takes place over the unpaved “strade bianche” (white ravel roads) in the heart of Chianti. This event expresses one of the most interesting footnotes in the history and tradition of the Stucchi family.
In 1874, it was this same family that introduced the first cycle and automobile factories to Italy . Within a few years, “Prinetti&Stucchi” established a reputation for itself acquiring international fame, to the extent that in 1918, when cycling champion Costante Girardengo contracted Spanish fever, and his career seemed at an end, “Prinetti&Stucchi” maintained confidence in Girardengo and added him to their team. The great cycling legend did not disappoint his new team’s” expectations, winning the Tour of Italy in 1919.
